WHY A COMMUNITY OF PRACTICE?

Community has been a key offering of the SDG Academy since 2017, when we first piloted our University Partnership Program, an initiative designed to increase universities’ capacity to teach about sustainable development by integrating SDG Academy content into new or existing academic programs. After successfully running this program for three years, we realized a couple of important things:
  • Every partner has unique needs.
  • There is value in sharing good practices, challenges, and opportunities among higher education institutions and beyond.
  • There is an opportunity to leverage the expertise of the group and scale the impact of the program!
With this in mind, we set out to create not just a program, but a truly collaborative experience that would not only offer valuable content, but be flexible and community driven, with the chance to create with and learn from all partners in order to advance sustainable development together. Members will have the opportunity to engage with the SDG-focused resources offered by the SDG Academy; personalize these resources for their own needs and institutional contexts; and develop their own resources, communities of learning, networks, and dialogues across the wider Community of Practice.

In addition to accessing the SDG Academy's high-quality educational content on sustainable development via our courses on edX and our SDG Academy Library, examples of engagement opportunities include:
  • Themed webinars on blended learning, localizing content, casework, teaching sustainable development in the disciplines, and more!
  • Town halls with leading voices in sustainable development and related fields.
  • Resource collections such as syllabi repositories, best practice tutorials, and calls for publication that allow partners to showcase and share their work in research and teaching.
