HEALTH FOR ALL

HEALTH FOR ALL

As articulated in SDG 3, health is crucial for sustainable human development, both as an inalienable human right and an essential contributor to the economic growth of society. Health contributes to national development through productive employment, reduced expenditure on illness care and greater social cohesion.

Jointly hosted by The Public Health Foundation of India, India, the Barcelona Institute for Global Health (ISGlobal), Spain, and Fundação Oswaldo Cruz (Fiocruz), Brazil.

"Health is the best summative indicator of success in sustainable development. Global health must set goals as we move towards 2030, the year for attaining the SDGs: accelerating progress on maternal and child health, controlling infectious and non-communicable diseases, improving mental health, and implementing universal health coverage."

Srinath Reddy, Co-Chair of SDSN Health for All

OUR VISION

We believe that universal health coverage (UHC), delivered through an adequately-resourced and well-governed health system, will be capable of addressing these and other health challenges. Universal health coverage must ensure equitable access to affordable, accountable, appropriate health services of assured quality to all people. These must include promotive, preventive, curative, palliative and rehabilitative services. UHC must be supported by policies and services addressing the wider social and environmental determinants of health for individuals and populations.

  • Lancet COVID-19 Commission

The Lancet COVID-19 Commission was launched on July 9, 2020 to assist governments, civil society, and the United Nations institutions to respond effectively to the COVID-19 pandemic.

The Commission aimed to offer practical solutions to the four main global challenges posed by the pandemic: (1) suppressing the pandemic by means of pharmaceutical and non-pharmaceutical interventions; (2) overcoming humanitarian emergencies, including poverty, hunger, and mental distress, caused by the pandemic; (3) restructuring public and private finances in the wake of the pandemic; and (4) rebuilding the world economy in an inclusive, resilient, and sustainable manner aligned with the Sustainable Development Goals (SDGs) and the Paris Climate Agreement.
