This side event features a presentation and discussions with the audience of the main findings of the 13th edition of the UNEP Emissions Gap Report. A key question of this year’s report is: what progress has been made in ambition and action since COP26 and how can the necessary transformations be initiated and accelerated? Transformations in the electricity supply, industry, buildings and transport sectors, as well as cross-sectoral systemic transformations of food systems and the financial system will be covered. Join SDSN's Aline Mosnier, as she presents Chapter 6 of the report: "Transforming food systems".

SDSN Program: Science Panel for the Amazon
Rainforests around the world are under threat from logging, agriculture and other land uses like mining. Amazon deforestation hit a six-year high this year, while in the Congo Basin, the world’s second-largest rainforest, deforestation has skyrocketed in recent years and is further threatened by oil and gas exploration. How can communities halt deforestation and restore degraded nature to address climate change? What models for successful landscape restoration exist for sensitive rainforest and peatland biomes? And how should policymakers, businesses and citizens be involved in their decision-making and design?
November 15, 2022 | 13:00 - 14:00 EET
Consortium of Governors Pavilion (Blue Zone) or watch the livestream
SDSN Program: Science Panel for the Amazon (SPA)
Co-hosted with the Consortium of the Governors of the Legal Amazon, SDSN's Science Panel for the Amazon (SPA) will release three new policy papers on three updated status topics: 1. Tipping points; 2. Forest Restoration; and 3. ITs (Indigenous Territories) and carbon stocks. These policy papers demonstrate the feasibility of sustainable pathways to combat the risks of the tipping point.
