The network, hosted by Monash University, and established in 2013, includes the following countries and/or territories: American Samoa, Australia, Commonwealth of the Northern Mariana Islands, Cook Islands, Federated States of Micronesia, Fiji, French Polynesia, Guam, Kiribati, Marshall Islands, Nauru, New Caledonia, New Zealand, Niue, Palau, Papua New Guinea, Pitcairn Islands, Réunion, Samoa, Solomon Islands, Tokelau, Tonga, Tuvalu, Vanuatu, Wallis and Futuna.

Key focus areas include (co) organizing workshops and public lectures on Australia’s SDG progress and identifying concrete opportunities for accelerating action, mainstreaming education for the SDGs in higher education through co-developing guides with SDSN, empowering youth through the launch of its AusNZPac Youth SDG Index and supporting the 2023 Australian Local Conference of Youth (LCOY) in workshops to empower youth in addressing key issues.

Youth-led Report Measures Young People’s Progress Towards the SDGs

In July 2023, SDSN Australia, New Zealand, & Pacific - Youth launched Towards an AusNZPac Youth SDG Index, a youth-led report that was the first in the world to use the SDGs framework to measure young people’s progress towards sustainable development and highlighted the need for a more genuine SDGs youth focus.

Consultation Workshops Empower Youth to Address Climate Change

Together with Monash Sustainable Development Institute (MSDI) and UNICEF Australia, SDSN Australia, New Zealand, & Pacific - Youth supported the 2023 Australian Local Conference of Youth (LCOY). The LCOY involved consultation workshops to empower young people to address climate change and to produce the 2023 National Child and Youth Statement on Climate Change, the official Australian youth input to COP28.

Lectures and Workshops Focus on Accelerating Australia's SDG progress

To mark the mid-point of Agenda 2030, the network collaborated with the UN Global Compact Network Australia on two cross-sector workshops in October 2023 to discuss Australia’s SDG progress and identify concrete opportunities for accelerating action. The network also co-hosted a public lecture in Melbourne by SDSN President, Prof. Jeffrey Sachs, on Leadership for Sustainable Development.

Virtual Sessions Highlight Best Practices, Challenges, and Opportunities in Higher Education

Continuing the Accelerating SDG Practice Initiative, in 2022, SDSN Australia, New Zealand & Pacific co-organized with Australasian Campuses Towards Sustainability (ACTS) and Principles for Responsible Management Education (PRME) Australia nine virtual sessions to share good practices, challenges, and opportunities for mainstreaming education in higher education in the region.
