national Network
Region: Europe

SDSN Ireland is an all island network, hosted by University College Cork and Queen's University Belfast. Established in 2023, SDSN Ireland mobilizes its members in Ireland and leverages their strengths to help realize the SDGs. Key focus areas include supporting capacity building for local implementation of SDGs (including workshops and training to upskill teaching staff on Education for Sustainable Development and Climate Literacy); raising SDGs awareness building on initiatives undertaken by the host institutions; localizing the SDGs but also engaging with high-level stakeholders, for example, through the collaboration on Ireland’s VNR; and building wider partnerships and research collaborations aimed at co-developing and co-creating solutions for the SDGs with a North-South focus.

The Network Contributes to the Voluntary National Review Process

SDSN Ireland authored the "Higher and Further Education" chapter in the Irish Voluntary National Review and is planning to collaborate with the Department of Environment, Climate and Communications on their Voluntary Local Review initiative in 2024.

The Network's Workshops, Lectures, and Papers Focus on Achieving the SDGs

SDSN Ireland focused it efforts on promoting Education for Sustainable Development (ESD) via workshops and lectures, including “Catalyzing Change: Balancing Activism and Academic Research in Sustainability” for SDSN Northern Europe. Additionally, a paper was presented at the 2023 ICSD conference on a novel pedagogy for ESD. In 2024, workshops are planned for SDSN members in Ireland and Northern Europe on the integration of SDGs across the curricula.
